Approved design might not be the cost-effective #design.


It is great to have a #permit application approved by the #plans examiner. However, an approved design might not be the cost-effective design. Plans examiners don't care about how much #money we are spending. It is acceptable to them as long as the design meets the minimum requirements of the #Code.

The fact is that huge cost savings can be found in more than 80% of designs in Code compliance.

A building official is required to have one of the following education and experience:
 
• Journeyman #Carpenter, #Plumber, #Electrician, Sheet Metal #Worker or #Bricklayer Certification plus at least 5 years of relevant experience in the building construction industry after receiving that journeyman certification.
• A completed 2 year technology diploma in a related field plus at least 5 years of relevant experience in the building construction industry post-diploma. 
• A degree in Engineering or Architecture plus at least 5 years of relevant experience in the #building construction industry.

Figure 9.10.-28 shows the requirements for the location and protection of projecting roof soffits that are in close proximity to a property line. The face of a roof soffit is permitted to project to the property line only where it faces a #street, #lane or public thoroughfare. In such an arrangement, no #building or soffit will be present on the other side of the property line.
