The #plans examiners do wish there would be a true Building Code consultant to help for facilitating the #approval process, when it is hard to communicate with the #applicants, such as #building #owners and #contractors, who have little knowledge of the Building Code.

There are always several #solutions for one #code issue. All solutions are related to #cost. Some of them might be expensive. The #AHJ doesn’t want to be liable for our cost, thus, the plans examiner would not provide us solutions by training. The best way to resolve the issue is to have a true building code consultant, who can bridge the gap between the plans examiner and the #designer.

Approved design might not be the cost-effective #design.
It is great to have a #permit application approved by the #plans examiner. However, an approved design might not be the cost-effective design. Plans examiners don't care about how much #money we are spending. It is acceptable to them as long as the design meets the minimum requirements of the #Code.
The fact is that huge cost savings can be found in more than 80% of designs in Code compliance.
